Art with a past, collected for the present.
Galerie Sixty was born from a lifelong love of art, interiors, travel, and the beauty of things with a story. Born in England to a British mother and Italian father, I was raised with a deep appreciation for art, music, culture and passion for exploring the world. My parents believed in experiencing places- not simply visiting them. Our travels took us through different countries, villages, galleries, museums, and along the way we collected mementoes of these experiences- art and antiques. Each piece became a reminder of a place, an experience, or a moment in our family's life.
When we eventually emigrated to the United States for careers, those special collections came with us. Familiar pieces found their place on unfamiliar walls and spaces and helped make a new country feel like home. Looking back, I think that was one of my earliest lessons in the power of art: it can carry a sense of place and belonging with us wherever we go.
Some of my fondest memories are of childhood summers spent at my grandmother's cottage (Number 60) in the Cheshire countryside- playing among the flowers in her garden, making "perfume" from her roses, and falling asleep at night surrounded by antique pictures, pottery, and brass.
Nearby was my grandfather's barn, filled with treasures accumulated over the years from his hardware store in the local village. I loved rooting through it, never quite knowing what I may uncover.
And then there were the antique shops in the villages.
My mother, aunt and grandmother took me antiquing as I was growing up. As a child-and certainly as a teenager- I didn't appreciate those afternoons nearly as much as I do now. But somewhere among the crowded shelves, old paintings, dusty corners, and conversations about things that had lived lives before us, something took route.
The searching. The history. The stories. And that wonderful feeling of discovering something beautiful when you weren't quite sure wat you were looking for.
I understand now that those experiences shaped the way I see things today. That passion has never left me, in fact, returning home to England and Europe has become a way of reconnecting with it. There is a sense of peace I find wandering through the countryside, visiting family and old family friends, exploring antique shops and markets, and searching for pieces that stir something familiar in me.
In many ways, I'm still searching for that same feeling I had during those childhood summers.
And that is where Galerie Sixty begins.
Today, I collect original antique and vintage art across Europe- from English antique shops and country fairs to French and Scandinavian markets, and unexpected places discovered along the way. I choose each piece individually, guided less by a particular period or style than by the feeling it evokes- beauty, character, history, and that indefinable quality that makes you pause and look again.
I am drawn to art that makes a home feel collected rather than decorated: expressive paintings, quiet landscapes, works on paper, botanicals, and beautifully aged pieces that carry evidence of the lives they've already lived.
When needed, works are carefully restored or thoughtfully reframed, aways with respect for the integrity and character of the original piece.
Galerie Sixty is deeply personal to me. It brings together the places, people, memories, and traditions that shaped my eye- the English countryside, my grandmothers garden, my grandfather's barn, afternoons with my mother, museums explored with my family, and the artwork and antiques that eventually crossed an ocean with us.
Those experiences taught me that art can be far more than something beautiful on a wall. It can remind us of where we've been, connect us to the people and places we love, and become part of the story of a home.
There is an inherent sustainability in choosing art with a past. I believe beautiful things do not need to be new to feel relevant. By collecting, preserving, restoring, and thoughtfully reframing existing works, we honor the craftmanship and materials already in the world while giving each piece the opportunity to be appreciated by another generation
Through Galerie Sixty, I hope to give these pieces another chapter- to be collected, lived with, and eventually become part of someone else's story.
